Greening Lower Grand Avenue Plan

The Greening Lower Grand Avenue Plan creates sustainable streetscape designs. This project used unique community engagement processes such as a site walk to engage the community and city, and a five-day design charrette attended by local artists, residents, downtown development interests, and City of Phoenix staff and elected officials. The sustainable, green street, design principles developed at the charrette resulted in a streetscape that included re-purposing travel lanes for parking, transit, rain gardens, and bicycle lanes. Other city-owned right of way was re-purposed for bioswales,  shade, and public seating areas. The plan includes unique, low cost implementation options to “kick start” revitalization and street improvements, and also included an area analysis, best practices, and alternative development.  This plan was awarded by the Arizona Planning Association in 2013 and Arizona Forward in 2014.
